North Island Secondary School Champs Final Places and Tournament Teams 2018

The North Island Secondary School Champs have once again come and gone and once again Harbour Volleyball teams had a great tournament. We had 10 girls teams and 7 boys teams compete over the 4 day tournament last week which included nearly 100 teams in total from all over the North Island.

In the girls competition we had 3 teams compete for a title this year. The Orewa College A team capped off a great season by losing only one match the entire tournament in the semi-final to the eventual winners New Plymouth HS. They held their resolve and went on to win the Bronze Medal match by knocking off a strong Western Heights team from Rotorua. Carmel College continued their junior climb by making it in to the top 8 where they had the tough match up with Bronze Medalists Orewa College. They ended the tournament on a high note by beating Otumoetai College A for 7th place. Westlake Girls HS came in as the Harbour number 1 team but had an extremely tough pool on the second day which included the eventual 1st and 2nd place teams. They lost those 2 tight matches and ended up missing out on the top 8 as a result, finishing up 9th in convincing fashion.

On the boys side Rangitoto College followed the nearly identical path as the Orewa College girls. They lost only one match all tournament and again it was the semi-final to the eventual winners Hillcrest HS from the mighty Waikato. This match was so close that it was determined by extra volleyball in the 3rd set and was arguably the match of the tournament. They followed up that loss with a resounding win over Trident HS to claim the Bronze Medal. Romsini College continued their ascendant season by finishing in 12th place in Div1. Long Bay College also finished the season strong with a 2nd place finish in Div2.

Harbour Volleyball again had some outstanding individual performances with 3 girls and 2 boys making the all-tournament teams in the photo below.

Congrats again to all of our athletes, coaches, managers, TIC’s, parents and staff who put together another fantastic junior season!
