The club volleyball season commences in June each year with a local Auckland regional league competition playing other teams in the Auckland region (e.g. from Waitakere and South Auckland). This competition runs on Saturdays at various venues across Auckland and each team generally plays 2 games and has one duty per day.
After this competition, teams from the Auckland and Midland Leagues play in a combined Northern Zone competition covering volleyball clubs across five of the fourteen New Zealand associations / provinces (Northland, Harbour, Manukau Auckland, Waikato and Bay of Plenty).
Northern Zone results are used to determine seedings for the annual New Zealand National Club Volleyball Championships held over 4 days in October each year. Over 30+ volleyball clubs from the 14 provinces are generally represented at the National Championships.
Anyone is welcome to trial for club volleyball. Teams typically consist of a combination of adults and secondary school students.
In order to qualify for the New Zealand National Championships, each club must be affiliated to one of the local associations. Harbour Volleyball Association currently has two affiliated clubs – Harbour Raiders and East Coast Bays Thunder (refer below).
