Harbour representation at Youth Olympic Qualifiers

Top NZ Beach Volleyball coach Fiona Scrimshaw and Harbour athlete Tamara Otene are off to Canberra March 1 – 3 to represent New Zealand to try to qualify the team for a position at the Youth Olympics in Buenos Aires later in the year.
Harbour Beach Volleyballer Otene will be partnering with Taranaki athlete Maya Dickson at the 3 day tournament. Otene is currently the U19 NZ age group champion.
Scrimshaw has been coaching for about 8 years both at Harbour and New Zealand levels. She can often be seen at the Beach Centre with her husband taking the players through their paces and challenging the athletes to use their height, strength and power along with self belief as they attempt to punch above their weight on the international scene.
Scrimshaw says her role is about coaching, mentoring and mothering, “my role has multiple facets and I need to learn to say the right thing at the right time. There will be questions asked as to whether we are up to it, but if we believe, then we will be up to it”.
Games start on Thursday.
